The Palouse is an unlikely area for backcountry skiing, with its relatively mild winters and few mountains scattered amongst rolling hills. However, the ridgelines that rise out of the Palouse hills offer just enough elevation to retain snow and with the right conditions can make for great skiing. The Palouse area was previously home to two small ski areas that have been closed for decades. The Tamarack Ski area on Moscow Mountain and North-South Ski Bowl near Emida Idaho. Even with these ski areas being closed and grown over for years, the stories of them are still passed around. Skiable areas and landscapes have changed over the years but the dedication to winter exploration has stayed true.

This project was produced as my capstone film for my degree in Broadcasting and Digital Media at the University of Idaho. Filmed in the winter of 2020-2021.
